Shades of Cuartetera took the field at Argentina’s Hurlingham Club with La Dolfina 10-goaler Adolfo Cambiaso playing six clones of the legendary mare in the team’s dominance over a game but out-gunned El Paraiso lineup.

La Dolfina took the early lead on a pair of first chukker goals from Cambiaso and a single goal from teammate Pablo MacDonough as the 40-goal lineup quickly displayed their discipline and teamwork. Nachi Heguy scored El Paraiso’s only goal of the chukker as they trailed, 3-1.

Second chukker goals from Agustin Merlos and Cubi Toccalino tied the game at three goals apiece when La Dolfina stormed back. Goals from Pelon Stirling and MacDonough pushed La Dolfina ahead by two goals, 5-3, to end the period.

Cambiaso scored two more goals in the third (one on a penalty conversion) while the La Dolfina defense held El Paraiso to a penalty goal from Merlos. The La Dolfina lead grew to three goals, 7-4, with a pesky 35-goal El Paraiso struggling to stay in the game.

A muted fourth period saw little scoring from either side with Cambiaso and Merlos exchanging penalty goals. The La Dolfina lead held at three goals, 8-5, at the end of the first half.

Juan Martin Nero scored his first goal after returning to the lineup following an injury. Both defenses were at their best. Merlos countered with a penalty conversion for a 9-6 end to the fifth.

The La Dolfina attack continued to pick up momentum in the sixth period with Cambiaso and MacDonough each scoring. Cubi Toccalino got El Paraiso on the scoreboard with a goal but they fell behind by four goals, 11-7.

Cuartetera 6 showed her stuff in the seventh period, carrying Cambiaso to three more goals. Merlos scored the only goal for El Paraiso as La Dolfina stretched the lead to six goals, 14-8 going into the final chukker.

El Paraiso seemed to have their way in the eighth, but the game had already been decided. La Dolfina was content to ride out the clock while giving up single goals to Merlos, Heguy and Cubi Toccalino for the 14-11 final score.

Cambiaso led all scoring with nine goals (two on penalty conversions). MacDonough added three goals with Nero and Stirling getting credit for single goals in the win. Merlos scored three of his team-high six goals from the field for El Paraiso. Cubi Toccalino was credited with three goals and Heguy added two goals in the loss.

The victory boosts La Dolfina into Wednesday’s 2016 Hurlingham Open final against the winner of Sunday’s game between Johor Ellerstina and Alegría-Assist Card.

The tournament final has been set for Wednesday, November 9th, with La Dolfina prepared to defend their title.
