The USPA Gold Cup® which runs from March 17 to April 1, 2018, is the third 26-goal tournament of the Florida high-goal season and the second leg of the American Triple Crown of Polo.
Succumbing to Pilot in their first game of the tournament, La Indiana was granted another opportunity to rectify their one loss in the Iglehart Cup Final on Thursday, at the IPC in Wellington. Despite a strong comeback in the sixth, La Indiana was unable to stop Pilot’s offensive drives and they ultimately took the trophy 11-9.
The Carlos Gracida Cup, 20 Goal Tournament will be played by 7 teams from March 17 to March 31 at the IPC Palm Beach.
After a competitive round of bracket play, four top teams qualified to play cross-bracket semifinals at the IPC Palm Beach. In the first semifinal held on Sunday, March 11, La Indiana maintained the lead from the onset to claim the first spot 9-6 over Goose Creek. The following Monday morning, March 12, Pilot overpowered Coca-Cola defeating them 13-10.
Following their C.V. Whitney Cup victory last weekend against Colorado, Valiente never lost focus and found themselves in an identical final on Sunday, at the IPC Palm Beach.Poised to capture their second 26-goal tournament title, Valiente delivered in the second half to claim the Butler Handicap Final 11-8.
On Wednesday, Mach 7, the Butler Handicap Cup started with 4 teams playing for a place in the final. While superficially the teams remained unchanged from the C.V. Whitney Cup, many player variations took place for similar, yet fresh, tournament play. Despite these shifts, the semifinal double-header, yielded a repeat final as Colorado defeated Daily Racing Form – DRF Bets 14-11 and Valiente overtook Grand Champions Polo Club 9-6.
